Senator Cheatham Announces Plan to Seek Re-election

Senator Eddie Cheatham announced he would seek re-election as State Senator for District 26 which is comprised of Ashley, Bradley, Chicot and Drew counties and portions of Cleveland, Desha and Lincoln counties. Senator Cheatham is serving his first term in the Arkansas Senate.

“I have enjoyed serving in the Senate and feel I have done a good job representing the people of Southeast Arkansas and Arkansans in general.  If re-elected I will focus my efforts on continued economic development and improved educational opportunities in southeast Arkansas.  I also hope to work to implement additional tax cuts and health care reform which will benefit all residents of Arkansas.”

Senator Cheatham is chairman of the Legislative Joint Auditing for State Agencies and is Co-Chair of the Arkansas State Game and Fish Oversight Committee.  He serves on the following committees:  Education, Agriculture, Forestry & Economic Development, Public Retirement and Social Security Programs, Rural Fire Departments, Legislative Joint Auditing and Rules, Resolutions and Memorials.  He is also a member of the State & Public School Life & Health Insurance Task Force.


Previously Senator Cheatham served 6 years in the Arkansas House of Representatives.  He is also a former member of the Crossett City Council.

Cheatham holds a Bachelors in Education from Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia and a Masters in Education from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.  He retired from UAM-Crossett Technology Center where he worked in Student Services and Finance.  His memberships include the Crossett Rotary Club, Crossett Historical Society, Ashley County Historical Society, West Ashley County Water Commission and the Crossett and Hamburg Chambers of Commerce.

A resident of Ashley County for the last 44 years, Cheatham is married to the former Virginia Plair.  They have 2 children, Seth and Gina, and 6 grandchildren.  They are active members of the First United Methodist Church of Crossett.  Cheatham is a member of the Administrative Board and Finance Committee.  They both have been involved in youth mission work locally and in the Appalachian Mountains.
