School Board Accepts Resignations, Transfers, Hires, and Rehires

The Warren School Board met Monday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Administrative Building for the regular monthly meeting.  After approving the minutes of the February 9 meeting and a special called meeting March 2, the board approved an overnight trip request for Cheryl Moring to attend the NAEA Art Conference in New Orleans March 25-29.

The board then heard "minute messages" from building principals.  Eastside Principal Sara Weaver told the board that students in her building began PARCC assessment Monday and that Daniel Gallegos's students videos were now on ituneu.  Brunson Principal Regina Scroggins reported that her building continues with The Leader in Me Program and that two "buddy benches" have been purchases.  The idea behind the buddy benches is that if a student is feeling left out, he or she can sit on the buddy bench and other students will recognize the student and invite them into playing with them.

Middle School Principal Glenetta Burks told the board members that her students will begin the PARCC Assessments Tuesday and that Maddie Anders had tied for 4th place in the Patriot's Pen State Writing Competition.  High School Principal Gary Jackson gave rave reviews of the band and choir department's recent accomplishments and announced that PARCC assessments begin Wednesday at the high school with Algebra I, followed by Geometry and Algebra II.  SEACBEC Director Jonalyn Reep reported that a grant for ABC Preschool is being written and that CRC testing will begin next week.

The board approved revision to Assistant Principal Indexes.

They approved unpaid leave for Glenda Alexander from March 10 to October 1, 2015.

Superintendent Johnson reported that due to recent claims the Legal Liability Insurance Policy will see a substantial premium increase from $9837.00 to $18,473.00.  She indicated to the board that she is continuing to look into options.

The board voted to approve the Hope Board contract discussed at last month's meeting and amended it to say they reserved the right to reject a post.

They approved the joint-use agreement between the district and the City of Warren on the join grant projects of the multi-purpose facility and the John Scobey Park.

ASBA Model Policy Updates were approved.

The drink contract was awarded to Coke for the next five years.

The board then approved the financial report and reviewed the Standard 3 of Superintendent Evaluation.

In the Superintendent's report, Mrs. Johnson gave the statistics for parent-teacher conference attendance.

She announced that spring break will be held March 23-27.

She told the board that Warren Schools will need to make up 5.5 days for inclement weather.  The schools are required to build in five days.  She told the board that one of the built-in days was President's Day which has already passed.  Another built in is Good Friday.  The other days were to be added on to the end of they year but with recent legislative approval to make up time by the hour by adding time to the end of the day options are being considered.  A sub-committee of the PPC will be formed to take a look at these options for making up days missed.

She pointed out to the board that two Warren School Employees and one student group were recently honored at the Annual Bradley County Chamber of Commerce Gala:  Regina Scroggins-Boss of the Year, WSD Teacher of the Year, Judy Shipp, and the EASTlab students were recognized at the Volunteer of the Year.  Eastlab is under the direction of Janet Harton.

She reported that the Schoolway App now has 1034 subscribers.

The Championship Ring Ceremny is scheduled for March 17 at IBC Family Life Center.

Warren High School and SEACBEC staff will be attending the STEM Conference Tuesday looking into grant opportunities to provide STEM classes.

She told the board that they will likely need to meet again in March to hear the Eastside Renovation Proposal.
