School Board Makes New Hires in Monday Night Meeting

The Warren School Board met Monday night for their regular monthly meeting.  After adopting of the previous month's minutes and approving out of state trip requests, the board heard a presentation from Child Nutrition Director Amanda West and Transportation Director Matthew Valentine.

After returning from executive session to discuss personnel matters the board voted to approve the following resignations:  Andrew Gonzalez, high school social studies and assistant football coach;  Ashley Gonzalez, elementary music; and Clay Bemberg, middle school social studies.

The approved the following transfers:  Becky Quoss from Eastside to Brunson science(voluntary transfer);  Kim Burnett from certified math interventionist to Level 4 to replace Mrs. Quoss;  and Rebecca Byers from Level 1 to Level 2.

The board approved all classified personnel as listed with restrictions as noted for the 2014-15 school year.

Michelle Stark was hired as MS literacy instructor to replace Ann Orleanski.

Liz Richey was hired as MS literacy instructor to replace Shelly Wolfe.

Janet Harton was hired as business education/CTE instructor.  This is a new position for two years as the school transitions to the new Technology Course sequence.

Tara Hogue was hired as ELL Coordinator/Instructor to replace Cindy Pacheco.

Katie Huhn was hired to teach elementary music, replacing Ashley Gonzalez.

Coleman Dowda was hired to be the small engine PET instructor, replacing Robbie Duncan.

Blake Washington was hired to teach middle school social studies and to be an assistant football coach, replacing Clay Bemberg.

In other business, the board adopted the March ASBA Model Policy Updates and approved a personnel policy recommendation with changes.  The recommendation was to limit sick leave bank awards to not include cosmetic nor elective surgeries.  The board determined that some items classified as elective surgeries could be important to the patient.  The recommendation was approved with the words elective surgeries removed.

In other business, the 2014-15 calendar was approved.  The board also voted to allow a list of older vehicles  to be let out for bid.

It was noted by Superintendent Johnson that an additional board meeting will be needed regarding finances.  The board voted to hold that meeting April 21 at 5:30 p.m.  In addition, the July board meeting was moved to July 21.

It was announced that in order to make up for 1 1/2 days of inclement weather dismissals (Feb. 12 and Dec. 6) school will be held Monday, June 2, and 1/2 day June 3.

The meeting concluded with Jeff Woodall addressing the board expressing the desire for Gideon Bibles to be allowed to be given out in the schools.  No action was taken.
