Two Forest Fires in Neighboring Counties

With the dry conditions in the state, it is no surprise that forest fires and grass fires have erupted.  Just this week, one grass fire was started in Bradley County by lightning.  Earlier in the week, firefighters battled a blaze in northern Dallas County.  Drew County has also been the site of another forest fire.

Wildfire near Ponderosa Lane in Drew County

An estimated 75 acres of forest land were burned in a wild fire, Thursday afternoon.

The fire began around 4 pm, near Chapman Trail, and at 6:30, had burned approximately 40 acres, and was still ablaze.

Arkansas Forestry Commission brought in 4-5 plows, 2 tanker planes, and a control plane.  A Blackhawk helicopter, from the National Guard, also arrived at the scene, to battle the blaze with a “pond bucket”.

Fire depts. involved included Lacey-Ladelle and Monticello, with Selma and Collins Cominto helping fill the AFC planes at the airport.

The fire was declared to be “contained” around 7:15, with the Forestry Commission remaining at the burn site, to watch for hot-spots.
